Heart Healthy Beef Chili

This chili recipe is certified by the American Heart Association and cannot be any easier to prepare. Just 40 minutes in the kitchen and it tastes like it's been simmering for hours. Serves 4 delicious, healthy portions.

 

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb. of ground beef 

15 oz. can reduced-sodium black beans

15 oz. can unsalted beef broth

15 oz. can unsalted diced tomatoes

4oz can diced green chilies or jalapeno peppers

2 tbsp chili powder

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Cook ground beef in non-stick skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes (until internal temperature reaches 160°F), breaking beef into 3/4 inch chunks
  • Pour off drippings
  • Stir in other ingredients and bring to boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally

 

Add any of these toppings for a tasty presentation:
sour cream, chopped cilantro, green onions, sliced black olives, shredded cheese, or sliced avocado.
